Alvin, me too! I mean in most states you can LITERALLY buy a gun without a license.
It works like this:
1. You walk into a gun shop. (They are EVERYWHERE.)
2. You show your identification.
3. You complete a short form called the Firearms Transaction Record. (I just pulled up the form. Its very basic.)
4. You wait for the a background check to be done. (It usually takes 1-10 days)
5. Red flags stopping anyone from buying a gun is a felony conviction or a dishonorable discharge from the US military.
6. If the check came through that you’re eligible, you pay and now own a gun.
7. What is even more scary: In 23 states you can even walk around in public with that gun concealed on your body without a license.
The flaw is that the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) that the feds use to do the background check seems to be very outdated and incomplete.
It is *shocking* how easy it is.
It makes me sad.
(I am not a lawyer, but I’ve confirmed this with a wide variety of sources. Please correct me if I’m wrong anyone.)
