You’re right. It’s incredibly silly! Most candidates cannot hold their smiles when I ask it. I ask it with a smile on my face too. It sets the tone for the interview. They immediately relax and let go of the bs filters. It’s so subtle, but only a truly careful person would have a screen protector on their phone. And if you leave laughing I’ve done my job by sprinkling a little happiness into your day. :-)
